Condensed Specification for Dufferin© Stone

This suggested "Condensed Language Specification" is intended to be used as a guideline for the manufacture and installation of the Dufferinc Stone veneer units. This Specification should be edited to apply to the specific project to which it applies.

PART I GENERAL

1.01 SUMMARY

EDITORIAL NOTE: REVISE BELOW TO SUIT PROJECT CONDITIONS.

1.02 REFERENCES
  1. American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM)

1.03 SUBMITTALS
  1. General: Prepare, review, approve, and submit specified submittals in accordance with Division 1 Submittals Sections. Submit the following:
    1. Product Data: Submit product data for each type of product specified.
    2. Samples: Submit verification samples for colors, textures.
    3. Test Reports: Submit test reports from an independent testing agency indicating compliance with ASTM C-55 for Concrete Brick.
1.04 QUALITY ASSURANCE
  1. Mock-up: (Field Constructed): When required, install at project site a job mock-up using acceptable products and manufacturer approved installation methods. Obtain Owner's and Architect's acceptance of finish color, texture and pattern, joint sizes, and installation workmanship standard. Dufferenc Stone is installed using random and varying patterns. Though the pattern use in the Mock-up panel may not be identical to that installed, it will be similar.

    EDITORIAL NOTE: SPECIFY BELOW MOCK-UP SIZE AND SUBSTRATE.
    1. Mock-up size
    2. Maintenance: Maintain mock-up during construction for workmanship comparison; remove and legally dispose of mock-up when no longer required.
    3. Incorporation: Mock-up may be incorporated into final construction upon Owner's approval.
1.05 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
  1. Ordering: Comply with manufacturer's ordering instructions and lead time requirements to avoid construction delays.
  2. Storage and Protection: Store materials protected from exposure to harmful weather conditions.


PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.01 MANUFACTURERS
  1. Dufferinc Stone Masonry Units and related materials shall be as manufactured or distributed by:

2.02 MATERIALS
  1. Dufferin Stone Units
    1. ASTM C-55 solid units with a 28 day average compressive strength of 3500 psi as determined by ASTM C-140.
    2. Sizes and shapes as indicated on drawings.
  2. Mortar : In accordance with Section 04100
  3. Anchors:
    1. When masonry veneer is anchored to wood backing, Corrugated sheet metal anchors, wire anchors or adjustable anchors may be used. Each anchor is attached to the backing with a corrosion-resistant 8d common nail, or a fastener with equivalent or greater pullout strength. Spacing of anchors shall be a maximum of 18" in the horizontal direction and 32" in the vertical direction.
    2. When masonry veneer is anchored to steel backing, adjustable anchors must be used to attach the veneer. Each anchor is attached with corrosion-resistant screws that have a minimum nominal shank diameter of 0.19 in. (4.8 mm) Sheathing and stud spacing requirements are similar to those for wood stud backing.
    3. When masonry veneer is attached to a masonry backing, wire anchors or adjustable anchors may be used. Spacing shall be 18" horizontally and 32" vertically.
2.03 QUALITY CONTROL
  1. General: All material shall be from a single manufacturer


PART 3 EXECUTION

3.01 MANUAFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Compliance: Comply with manufacturer's product data, including product technical bulletins, and product catalog installation instructions.
3.02 EXAMINATION
  1. Site Verification of Conditions: Verify substrate conditions (which have been previously installed under other sections) are acceptable for product installation in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
3.03 PREPARATION
  1. Adjacent Surfaces Protection: Protect adjacent work areas and finish surfaces from damage during product installation.
3.04 INSTALLATION
  1. Pattern: Place varying size of stones in such a way as to provide a random pattern as selected and approved by Mock-up panel. No mortar joint shall exceed 3/4" either horizontally or vertically.
  2. Provide for expansion and control joints as recommended by manufacturer or as specified on drawings.
3.05 CLEANING AND PROTECTION
  1. Cleaning: Remove temporary coverings and protection of adjacent work areas. Repair or replace damaged installed products. Clean installed products in accordance with manufacturer's instructions prior to owner's acceptance. Remove construction debris from project site and legally dispose of debris.
  2. Protection: Protect installed product's finish surfaces from damage during construction.
